ABSTRACT A folding wheel chair having means to elevate the seat and back rest portion relative to the main frames of the wheel chair. The seat portion is mounted to be vertically slidable on a pair of side frames, the lower portion of the side frames and the seat portion being interconnected by cross stabilising struts. Means are provided to elevate the side frames relative to the main frame carrying the wheels of the wheel chair so that on elevating the side frames the side frames and the seat portion raise as a unit together with the cross stabilising bars to maintain the wheel chair in the spread condition.
