WHEEL COVER Abstract of the Disclosure An ornamental wheel cover for ornamental removable at- tachment to an automotive wheel comprises a rim portion having a retention means. The retention means gripingly engages the wheel. A central portion is disposed axially outward from the rim portion and has a central aperture therethrough. The aperture is in axial alignment with the axle upon which the wheel is rotatably mounted. A locking pin is slidably dis- posed within the aperture. The locking pin has a head portion at its outward facing end and a reduced portion at the inward facing end. A locking cap is fixedly attached to the inward facing end of the reduced portion of the locking pin. The locking cap is provided with a plurality of radially project- ing bayonet tabs. The head portion is positioned outboard of the central portion of the wheel cover and captures a spring between the central portion and the inwardly facing radial- ly extending portion of the head portion in combination with a funnel shaped member provided with a radially projecting col- lar having a plurality of holes provided therethrough for re- gistration on the threaded studs to which the wheel is fixedly mounted to rotate with the wheel. Nuts positionally lock the funnel shaped member on the studs wherein the central axis of the funnel shaped member is coincident with the axis of the axle and the locking pin. The funnel shaped member flares in- wardly to surround the end of the axle and terminates in an inwardly radially projecting lip. The inwardly radially pro- jecting lip is provided with a plurality of slots therethrough to receive the radially projecting bayonet tabs of the locking cap when the locking cap is pressed inwardly against the bias- ing force of the spring. The bayonet tabs slidably en- gage an inclined track as the locking pin is rotated about its axis. The track has a detent for lockingly positioning the bayonet tab therein to thereby positively lock the wheel cover to the funnel shaped member and, in turn, to the wheel member.
