A wheel guard that can be used to protect a wheel from damage. The wheel guard includes a mounting spacer connectable to a rim, the mounting spacer including a base connectable the rim, an extension member extending from the base and a terminal end on the extension member opposite the base from the extension member, and a guard plate mounted on the terminal end. The wheel guard can be mounted on the rim using the fasteners used to fasten the wheel to a vehicle to prevent damage to the rim. The mounting spacer can prevent the guard plate from damaging the wheel in the event of a blow that deforms the guard plate. The guard plate can be pivotally fastened to the mounting spacer and can rotate in the plane of the guard plate about the spacer. In this manner, the guard plate can deflect the force of a blow through rotation.
