A rail assembly is built from three parallel cylindrical members, wherein a first rail provides support for a large wheel. The large wheel has an axle protruding from each side, wherein the outbound side has a frame attached to the axle and a seat attached to the frame. The rail side of the axle connects to a second rail acting as a pilot/guide for the travel of the large wheel. A third rail and interconnections provide structural rigidity for the rail assembly. The riders fly through a roller coaster layout sitting only in a seat, facing the passing environment head on at high speeds, thereby experiencing a free flight sensation. A people mover embodiment adds a motor to the wheel to move the wheel along a relatively flat layout. An optional flip means functions to selectively engage the axle with the rotating large wheel (nominally via a reduction gear) to flip the riders 360~. Optionally a group of large wheels can be coupled together to form a train.

Selon l'invention, un ensemble de rails est constitué de trois éléments cylindriques parallèles, un premier rail servant à supporter une grande roue. Un essieu sort de chaque côté de cette roue, un cadre étant fixé à l'essieu sur le côté extérieur et un siège étant fixé à ce cadre. L'essieu côté rail est relié à un deuxième rail assurant un rôle de pilote/guide pour le déplacement de la grande roue. Un troisième rail et des interconnexions procurent à l'ensemble de rails une rigidité structurelle. Avec cette configuration de montagnes russes, les personnes sont transportées assises uniquement dans un siège et se trouvent directement face à l'environnement défilant à grande vitesse, ce qui leur procure une sensation de vol libre. Dans un mode de réalisation à système de transfert, un moteur est ajouté à la roue pour déplacer celle-ci le long d'un circuit relativement plat. Un moyen de basculement optionnel sert à mettre en prise l'essieu de façon sélective avec la grande roue en rotation (essentiellement par l'intermédiaire d'un engrenage réducteur) pour faire basculer les personnes à 360°. Plusieurs grandes roues peuvent être éventuellement accouplées pour former un train.
