An apparatus for blocking rotation of a wheel (30) relative to a frame (12) of a mobility aid (10) includes a spur gear (32) rotatable with the wheel, and a sector gear (66) mounted on the frame adjacent the spur gear. The sector gear is movable into engagement with the spur gear to block rotation of the wheel. An actuator (42) is provided for actuating the sector gear.
