A wheel restraint device (20) incorporates a harness (26) that receives first and second elongated straps (22, 24) used to secure a vehicle wheel (2) to a support surface (12) on which the wheel is supported. Each elongated strap (22, 24) is configured to extend over an upper outer surface (8) of the wheel and be secured to the support surface proximate outer (4) and inner (6) sides of the wheel. The harness (26) includes first and second sleeves (82, 84) that are respectively configured to slidably receive the first and second elongated straps (22, 24). Moreover, the first and second sleeves (82, 84) extend at an angle relative to one another to orient the first and second elongated straps (22, 24) in a crossing relationship along one side of the wheel. With such an arrangement, it has been found that the tendency of the harness (26) and/or the elongated straps (22, 24) to work themselves either over the upper outer surface of a wheel, or along the front or rear ends of the wheel, is significantly reduced. Furthermore, the arrangement oftentimes can be substantially faster and easier to install, thus reducing the time and effort expended by drivers or dock workers.

La présente invention concerne un dispositif d'immobilisation de roue (20) comprenant un harnais (26) destiné à recevoir des première et seconde brides allongées (22, 24) servant à immobiliser une roue de véhicule (2) sur une surface de support (12) sur laquelle se trouve la roue. Chaque bride allongée (22, 24) est conçue pour s'étendre sur une surface extérieure supérieure (8) de la roue et pour être fixée à la surface de support à proximité des parties latérales externe (4) et interne (6) de la roue. Le harnais (26) comprend des premier et second manchons (82, 84) qui sont respectivement conçus pour recevoir les première et seconde brides allongées (22, 24), celles-ci pouvant coulisser à l'intérieur des manchons. De plus, les premier et second manchons (82, 84) forment un angle entre eux qui permet une orientation croisée des première et seconde brides allongées (22, 24) sur un côté de la roue. Une installation de ce type permet de limiter significativement la tendance qu'ont le harnais (26) et/ou les brides allongées (22, 24) à passer soit par-dessus la surface extérieure supérieure de la roue, soit le long des extrémités avant et arrière de la roue. De plus, l'installation peut, dans de nombreuses situations, s'avérer beaucoup plus rapide et facile à installer, ce qui permet de réduire le temps et les efforts mis en oeuvre par les conducteurs et les dockers.
