The present invention relates to a seat cushion assembly for use, in particular, in a wheelchair. The assembly includes a sculpted or molded foam base having exterior sidewalls profiled to accommodate a wheelchair frame, and a seating surface to provide some positioning support to the occupant. Further, the base includes a well area to be positioned under the ischial tuberosities of the occupant and including means for the removable attachment of a flexible envelope containing a fluid filling material. The envelope is comprised of upper and lower elastomeric sheet materials sealed about the perimeter. It is divided by internal seal sections so as to inhibit fluid migration within the envelope. These internal seals define a tapering flow orifice which provide for gradual restriction of a flow channel to permit flow so as to avoid failure inhibiting fluid migration. The envelope has a surface area which exceeds the surface area of the well and includes attachment means on the bottom side to encourage a gathering of the envelope into the well for proper cushioning effect. In addition, the assembly can include a rigidizer to enable the cushion to be used in a sling-type wheelchair seat.
La présente invention porte sur un ensemble coussin de siège prévu notamment pour un fauteuil roulant. Cet ensemble comprend une base de mousse sculptée ou moulée dont les parois latérales extérieures sont profilées de façon à adapter un cadre de fauteuil roulant, et une surface d'assise conférant à l'occupant un certain support de positionnement. La base comprend en outre une zone creuse se plaçant sous les tubérosités ischiatiques de l'occupant et un dispositif destiné à la fixation amovible d'une enveloppe flexible renfermant une matière de rembourrage fluide. L'enveloppe est constituée de matériaux en feuilles supérieurs et inférieurs, élastomères, fixés hermétiquement sur sa périphérie. Elle est divisée par des sections d'étanchéité internes de manière à empêcher le fluide de migrer dans l'enveloppe. Ces éléments d'étanchéité internes forment un orifice d'écoulement conique qui se rétrécit progressivement pour former un canal d'écoulement de façon à éviter qu'une panne empêche le fluide de migrer. L'enveloppe a une superficie supérieure à celle de la zone creuse et comprend un dispositif de raccordement placé sur le côté inférieur pour faciliter la pénétration de l'enveloppe dans la creuse et obtenir ainsi un effet de rembourrage correct. L'ensemble peut également comporter un élément rigidifiant pour pouvoir utiliser le coussin dans un siège de fauteuil roulant de type transat.
