This invention provides a wheel (20) having a rim (22) for mounting a tire (24) and also including a brake lining structure including a portion which is formed of friction material (44) which extends at least partially around the rotational axis of the wheel (20) in a position which is radially-inwards of the rim (22). The brake lining structure including a portion which is formed of friction material (44) has a radially-inner frictional material braking surface for engagement by arcuate brake arms (60) of a wheel assembly when the arcuate brake arms (60) are forced radially-outwards. The wheel (20), upon removal from a vehicle, may be changed for replacement of the brake lining structure. The brake lining assembly thus has a unitary brake lining structure including a portion which is formed of friction material (44) which is concentrically carried within a brake lining carrier (50). An automotive vehicle on which such wheels (20) are mounted includes mechanism for drawing fluid from a fluid operated braking system to cause the arcuate brake arms (60) to move further radially-inwardly with respect to the wheel (10) to enable the wheel (10) to be easily removed from the automotive vehicle without interference by the arcuate brake arms (60).
La présente invention se rapporte à une roue (20) comportant une jante (22) conçue pour le montage d'un pneumatique (24) ainsi qu'une structure de garniture de frein ayant une partie constituée d'un matériau de friction (44) qui est disposé au moins partiellement autour de l'axe de rotation de la roue (20) et orienté radialement vers l'intérieur de la jante (22). Ladite structure de garniture de frein, qui comporte une partie constituée d'un matériau de friction (44), possède une piste de freinage constituée d'un matériau de friction disposé radialement et vers l'intérieur et conçue pour entrer en contact avec les bras de frein arqués (60) d'un ensemble roue lorsque lesdits bras de frein arqués (60) sont contraints à se déplacer radialement vers l'extérieur. Il est possible de retirer la roue (20) du véhicule afin de remplacer la structure de garniture de frein. L'ensemble de garniture de frein comporte de ce fait une structure monobloc incorporant une partie constituée d'un matériau de friction (44) qui est transporté de manière concentrique au sein d'un organe porteur (50) de la garniture de frein. Un véhicule automobile sur lequel on monte de telles roues (20) comporte un mécanisme conçu pour prélever du fluide d'un système de freinage hydraulique dans le but de forcer les bras de frein arqués (60) à se déplacer encore plus radialement et vers l'intérieur par rapport à la roue (20) de façon à permettre un retrait facile de la roue (20) du véhicule automobile sans interférence avec les bras de frein arqués.
