ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to an off-base fed tunable, low profile blastproof and broadband whip antenna and coupler system for advanced generations of vehicular military communication sets operating over 30 to 88 mega- hertz (MHz) frequency band. For a direct replaceability with marrower bank systems (30-76 MHz) of prior art, the 30-88 MHz band is sub-divided into ten (10) sub-bands. The whip antenna is according y series tuned at each sub- band by suitably designed fix-tuned circuits within the antenna coupler unit integrated into the base of the antenna assembly. The ten (10) tuning circuits are arranged around a selector embodiment in the form of a stack of two multiprongs circular wafers, the center parts of which are free to rotate by an axle actuated by a Solenoid step-rotor or manually to connect appropriately tuned circuits for efficient operation in respective frequency sub-bands. The step switching of the rotary selector may be remotely controlled to connect/disconnect to the fix-tuned circuits in accordance with desired frequency sub-bands within the 30-88 Mhz band. The antenna system that has evolved in relation to the present invention is uniquely designed to be inconspicuous - no tie-down is necessary; rugged - may survive the harshest military environment; easy to maintain - modular-type construction; ground insensitive - base choked by means of a helical re-entrant cavity resonator; able to accom- modate broad frequency spectrum of most advanced VHF military transceivers.
