A method is provided for managing usage of a plurality of local area networks by a plurality of subscribers associated with a service provider. The subscribers have terminals for accessing the local area networks. The terminals each have a client program for communicating with a service provider network. For each subscriber desiring to access a local area network, the method includes: (a) receiving at a gateway at the service provider network a request for authenticating a subscriber desiring access to the local area network, the request containing subscriber credentials for the subscriber desiring access to the local area network; (b) authenticating the subscriber based on the subscriber credentials and information relating to the subscriber previously stored in a subscriber database ; (c) authorizing the local area network to grant access to the subscriber when the subscriber is authenticated; (d) establishing a link between the gateway and a client program on a terminal operated by the subscriber; (e) collecting session information through the link; (f) receiving information on local area network usage by the subscriber; and (g) transmitting the information on local area network usage to a billing system for billing of usage by the subscriber.
L'invention concerne un procédé de gestion de l'usage de plusieurs réseaux locaux d'entreprise par une pluralité d'abonnés associés à un fournisseur de services. Les abonnés possèdent un terminal pour accéder aux réseaux locaux d'entreprise. Les terminaux possèdent chacun un programme client pour communiquer avec un réseau de fournisseurs de services. Pour chaque abonné souhaitant accéder à un réseau local, le procédé consiste à: (a) recevoir au niveau d'une passerelle d'un réseau de fournisseurs de services, une demande d'authentification d'un abonné souhaitant accéder au réseau local, la demande contenant des justificatifs d'identité pour l'abonné souhaitant accéder au réseau local; (b) authentifier l'abonné en fonction des justificatifs d'identité de l'abonné et des informations relatives à l'abonné, stockées préalablement dans une base de données d'abonnés; (c) autoriser le réseau local à accorder l'entrée à l'abonné lorsque l'abonné est authentifié; d) établir une liaison entre la passerelle et un programme client sur un terminal exploité par l'abonné; (e) collecter des informations de session par la liaison; (f) recevoir des informations sur l'usage du réseau local par l'abonné; et (g) transmettre les informations sur l'usage du réseau local à un système de facturation afin de permettre la facturation de l'utilisation par l'abonné.
