ABSTRACT The wide-neck container is closable by means of a cover, having a bottom at the end of an inner rim which drops into the neck of the container, and an outer rim that overlaps the neck and has a radial cover lip. The cover is sealed by means of a gasket installed in the annular groove between the inner and the outer rims of the cover. On its underside the cover lip has alternating tongue-like lugs and recesses, arranged at specific intervals around the circumstance of the cover. Annular flange segments molded on the neck engage in the lip recesses; these supplement the partial cross-sectional profile of the cover lip which is formed in the area of the recesses so as to form the full cross-sectional profile of the cover lip in the area of the lugs. The locking ring that encloses the cover lip and the annular flange segments is secured by means of clamp pieces molded on the cover lugs and area oriented around the perimeter.
