In general, winch carriers for pickup trucks are merely brackets or platforms mounted on the front or rear bumper of the truck. It is difficult to remove the carriers, and they are not adapted for use on either end of the vehicle. A relatively simple solution to these problems takes the form of a winch carrier which replaces the middle section of a bumper of the type including vertical brush guard plates. In its simplest form, the carrier includes a crossbar extending between the bottom rear of the vertical plates and connected to the front of the vehicle frame, a pair of square cross section sockets or arms extending forwardly from the crossbar, and a winch platform with a pair of square cross section arms or sockets for mating with the sockets or arms on the crossbar to removably mount the platform on the crossbar. A similar crossbar and socket or arm arrangement is provided connected to the rear of the vehicle frame, so that the platform can readily be mounted on and removed from either end of the vehicle.
