The present invention relates generally to the field of wind power generation and in particular, to systems using a plurality of vertically stacked wind turbines disposed on a support structure to produce electrical energy from wind power. The wind power generation system includes an upright support structure having a plurality of vertically spaced platforms about which wind is permitted to circulate. The plurality of platforms include at least a first platform and a second platform adjacent the first platform. Each of the first and second platforms has a top face and an opposing bottom face. The second platform is carried higher above the ground than the first platform. Also provided is a plurality of wind turbines carried on the upright support structure. The plurality of wind turbines includes a first wind turbine and a second wind turbine disposed in vertically opposing fashion relative to the first wind turbine. The first wind turbine is mounted to the top face of the first platform and extends upwardly therefrom, and the second wind turbine is mounted to the bottom face of the second platform and extends downwardly therefrom. The first wind turbine is capable of independent rotation relative to the second wind turbine. The first and second wind turbines may be vertical axis wind turbines or horizontal axis wind turbines.
