It is described a method for controlling the operation of a wind turbine (100) comprising at least one structural compo-nent (114, 120, 122). The described method comprises (a) scheduling a fatigue life time consumption of the structural component (114, 120, 122), (b) determining the current veloc-ity of a wind which is driving the wind turbine, (c) specify-ing a current set point value for the fatigue life time con-sumption of the structural component based on the scheduled fatigue life time consumption of the structural component (114, 120, 122), (d) specifying a maximum set point value for the fatigue life time consumption of the structural component based on the determined current wind velocity, and (e) oper-ating the wind turbine (100) depending on the specified cur-rent set point value and/or on the specified maximum set point value such that a mechanical load acting on the struc-tural component is controlled. It is further described a ma-chine load control system (250), a wind turbine and a com-puter program, which are adapted for carrying out and/or for controlling the described wind turbine operation control method.
