ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A wind turbine consists of a support structure and a substantially vertically extending shaft rotatably mounted to the support structure. The shaft has a first end which attaches to working machinery, and a second end. A rotatable body is mounted about its central axis on the second end of the shaft for rotation with the shaft. A plurality of pivot pins extend substantially vertically from the rotatable body. A plurality of rigid vanes are provided. Each of the vanes have a first end pivotally mounted to one of the pivot pins and a second end. A plurality of stops are mounted to the rotatable body. Each of the stops engages the second end of one of the vanes during a portion of the rotation of the rotatable body, such that the vane is maintained in position transverse to wind direction by the stop as the vane travels in a direction corresponding to the wind and the vane pivots to correspond with wind direction and reduce resistance as the vane travels into the wind.
