A turbine rotor comprises turbine blades (7) connected by a mounting arrangement (8) to bearing members (5, 6) and to a rotor (9) or a generator. Components of forces acting on the blades (7) parallel to the axis (4) are substantially exclusively communicated to the bearing members (6), for example by rigid straight members (11, 12).
