ABSTRACT : Disclosed is a wind-energy conversion system for making use of at least part of the kinetic energy of the wind. In a typical embodiment a tower structure (1) supports tangential flow turbine rotors (2,3) for rotation about the vertical axis. Each is in the form of a prism with specially in wind-direction curved vertical surfaces. A wind-deflecting shield ( 7)directs the airflow to one side of each rotor whilst shielding the other side from the airflow. The turbine rotors (2,3) and the windshield (7) are carried on an intermediate support frame (5) which is rotatable about the ?ower structure (1). The wind-deflecting shield (7) may have adjustable guide vanes whereby the direction of the air-flow relative to the turbine rotor surfaces may be varied.
