ABSTRACT The "Windcap" is a device fixed to the terminal end of a chimney that assists in the protection of the internal chimney structure from precipitation (snow, rain, hail, etc ...) and helps to facilitate the removal of smoke from within the chimney. The base (chimney insert) of the "Windcap" is inserted into the terminal end of the chimney, thus is immobile whereas the upper portion of the "Windcap" is attached to the base via an axial "pivot" which allows mobility. The upper (funnel) portion is shaped to enable the wind to position it such that it serves the purpose of protection, while two separate vents enable wind current to draw smoke from within the chimney. A fin is attached to the upper (funnel) portion to facilitate the wind direction dependent characteristic of the device.
