The winding of tape into pads is effected on a machine which controls the tension in the tape as it is laid onto the pad by a lay-on roller which also drives the rotation of the pad. A pad is a spiral winding of tape in which each turn of tape is laid directly on top of the previous turns. The machine includes a series of cores one for each tape mounted on a shaft for independent rotation of each core relative to the shaft. The tape is directed from common guide rollers to a series of individual arms one for each tape with each arm being mounted on a shaft for individual adjustment along the length of the shaft to a position associated with the particular core. The shaft drives a lay-on roller at an outer end of the arm and the arm can pivot about the shaft to accommodate changes in diameter of the package as built. The use of lay-on rollers which are all driven at the same speed ensures a constant tension in the tapes even if the tapes are deviated outwardly so as to increase the spacing between the tapes relative to the original web from which the tapes are slit.
L'enroulement de ruban en bobine s'effectue sur une machine qui contrôle la tension du ruban lorsqu'il est déposé sur la bobine par un rouleau de mise en place qui entraîne également la rotation de la bobine. Une bobine est un enroulement en spirale de ruban dans lequel chaque tour de ruban est placé directement sur les tours précédents. La machine comprend une série de noyaux, un pour chaque ruban monté sur un axe pour une rotation indépendante de chaque noyau par rapport à son axe. Le ruban est dirigé à partir de rouleaux de guidage communs vers une série de bras individuels, un pour chaque ruban, chaque bras étant monté sur un axe pour un réglage individuel sur la longueur de l'axe à une position correspondant à un noyau particulier. L'axe entraîne un rouleau de mise en place à une extrémité extérieure du bras, et ce dernier peut pivoter autour de l'axe pour accommoder les changements de diamètre de la bobine. L'utilisation de rouleaux de mise en place qui sont tous entraînés à la même vitesse permet une tension constante dans les rubans, même si ces derniers s'écartent vers l'extérieur, de façon à augmenter l'espace entre les rubans par rapport à la bande originale dont les rubans sont coupés.
