A window alarm includes a housing having an exterior and an interior. A light is mounted to the housing in a manner that makes the light visible from the exterior of the housing. A self-contained portable power source is disposed within the interior of the housing. A light circuit connects the light to the power source. An audio alarm is disposed within the interior of the housing. An alarm circuit connects the audio alarm to the power source. The alarm circuit includes a magnetic switch having an open and a closed position. A magnet is provided which is kept separate and distinct from the housing. The proximity of the magnet keeps the magnetic switch in the open position thereby preventing the audio alarm from sounding. The absence of the magnet results in the magnetic switch moving to the closed position thereby completing the alarm circuit so that the audio alarm sounds.
