A window bar guard with emergency spring loaded release. The bar guard comprises a rigid bar grillwork having a plurality of spaced apart first set of parallel bars and a plurality of interconnecting spaced apart second set of parallel bars. The bar grillwork is adapted to span a window opening to block human entry. The grillwork is mounted for pivotal movement at one end, and releasably secured at an opposite end for effecting emergency egress.
