A window frame for slideably mounting a windowpane into a wall opening. The window frame has a top rail connectable on a top surface of the wall opening, adapted to slideably receive the upper edge of the windowpane. The frame further has a window sill, having a base frame member and a removable frame member. The base frame member is affixed to the wall opening while the removable frame member is removably mountable thereon. A channel is provided on the removable frame member for receiving the bottom edge of the windowpane in a sliding engagement. A locking mechanism is provided for keeping the two frame members in engagement. Advantageously, the removable frame member may be removed from the window so it can be easily cleaned.
