An improvement is disclosed in windows or door systems for installing in the wall of a building, of the kind comprising a plurality of frame sections each including channel means for receiving the wall components which surround the aperture into which the window or door opens. According to the present invention, the channeled portion of the frame includes a removable outer brickmold wall portion, which may be in the form of a cutaway strip having narrowed attachment portions along the outer edges. This affords window or door systems which allow for multi-functional use, since the external frame portion may function either as brickmold or J-channel.
