-19- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An opening/closing device for a window comprises a body adapted to be mounted to the window sill or adjacent some other part of the window frame. A flexible coil arm extends from within the body to be connected to the window sash. A winding mechanism within a hollow interior of the body coils the flexible coil arm within the hollow interior of the body as the window is closed. The mechanism also uncoils the flexible coil arm from within the hollow interior of the body to extend the flexible coil arm as the window is opened.
