ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A window stay restricts opening of a hinged window leaf by providing an arm connected between the window and a fixed frame. At one end, the arm is connected to a slide which runs in a channel as the window is opened and closed and which engages a stop to limit the opening movement of the window. The slide can be rotated relative to the channel to a position in which it can be disengaged from the channel to allow the arm to be disengaged from the channel so permitting unrestricted opening of the window in, for example, an emergency. (Fig. 1)
