ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An oven door comprises spaced-apart outer and inner panels with aligned window openings and one or more transparent window panes and an apparatus for raising and lowering a shield. The locking means cooperates with an oven frame for locking the oven door shut on an oven and guide means guides the movement of the shield within the door. The apparatus is capable of swinging the shield upwardly along an arcuate path to move the shield to a window covering position. The guide means comprises a rod positioned on each side of the window and the ends of the shield are overturned to define a channel at each shield end through which the rods extend. The degree to which the ends are overturned is sufficient to ensure enga- gement of the shield with the rods at all times during its swinging movement. The rods are covered with a friction reducing material.
