ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A replaceable squeegee assembly or refill unit for a windshield wiper blade incorporates a universally adapted back- in strip for supporting a rubber-like squeegee element. The backing strip may be integrally formed of molded or extruded plastic material and includes a pair of space-apart side rails attached to a squeegee holder in the form of a channel-shaped body by a pair of resiliently flexibly legs so that the spacing between the outer longitudinal edges of the side rails can be varied independently of the squeegee holder to fit wiper blade pressure distributing superstructures having pairs of opposed blade straddling claws spaced apart different widths.
