This invention relates to the design of a hand operated device, to assist and simplify the lifting from floor level, transport of and elevated storage racking of heavy carboys and fermentation containers used in the production of wine. Presently available, hand operated lifting devices, due to their mass and design of the lifting arms and floor clearances necessary, are unable to pick up carboys stacked closely and resting directly on the floor without unduly disturbing the contents of the carboys. They are unable to operate in confined areas with minimum clearance between shelving units, due to their overall size.
