A tiltrotor aircraft includes a rotatable nacelle that supports a rotor assembly and is pivotally attached to the aircraft's fuselage. A wing extension attaches to an outboard section of the nacelle. The wing extension provides additional yaw control during helicopter mode and additional lift during airplane mode. A method for controlling at least a portion of yaw movement includes positioning the rotor assembly in helicopter mode, creating rotor wash with the rotor assembly, and pivotally rotating the wing extension in the rotor wash.

L'invention porte sur un aéronef à rotors basculants qui comprend une nacelle apte à tourner qui supporte un ensemble rotor et est fixée à pivotement au fuselage de l'aéronef. Une extension d'aile se fixe à une section extérieure de la nacelle. L'extension d'aile assure une commande de lacet supplémentaire en mode hélicoptère et une portance supplémentaire en mode avion. L'invention porte également sur un procédé pour commander au moins une partie du mouvement de lacet, le procédé comprenant le positionnement de l'ensemble rotor en mode hélicoptère, la création d'un sillage de rotor avec l'ensemble rotor, et la rotation à pivotement de l'extension d'aile dans le sillage du rotor.
