A wire carrier for use in the manufacture of weather seals is disclosed comprising a wire (4) folded into a zig-zag configuration and having a plurality of generally parallel limbs for carrying a plurality of polymeric warp threads (16, 22) secured to the wire (4) and at least one ribbon (30), having stiffening elements along its longitudinal axis, secured to the wire carrier such that the ribbon(s) runs substantially perpendicularly to the limbs of the wire. The ribbon (30) may be secured to the wire by adhesive, by weaving, or by at least one row of warp thread. The resulting wire carrier is prevented from elongating during exclusion and thus a resulting product does not experience shrinkage. Methods for manufacturing the carrier are also disclosed.

Renforcement en fil métallique servant à fabriquer des joints d'étanchéité contre les intempéries et comprenant un fil métallique (4) plié en zigzag et possédant une pluralité de segments généralement parallèles servant à porter une pluralité de fils de chaîne polymères (16, 22) fixés au fil métallique (4), ainsi qu'au moins un ruban (30) fixé au renforcement et dont l'axe longitudinal possède des éléments de raidissement, de sorte que ce ruban s'étend dans un sens pratiquement perpendiculaire aux segments du fil métallique. On peut fixer ce ruban (30) au fil métallique au moyen d'adhésif, d'un textile ou d'au moins une rangée de fils de trame. Ceci permet d'empêcher l'allongement du renforcement pendant l'extrusion et, par conséquent, le rétrécissement du produit fini. Procédés servant à fabriquer ce renforcement en fil métallique.
