ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The specification describes a mechanism for controllably advancing material such as wire to a work station. The mechanism includes two frusto-conical shaped wheels mounted in a face to face relationship so that the wire is pulled through the nip formed by a rotation of the wheels. One wheel has an associated tension adjustment means which is adapted to vary the pressure exerted by one wheel on the other. A flexible wire guide, and an adjustable spool holder form part of the mechanism.
