ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Tension and breakage of fine wire during annealing at high speeds are reduced by driving the electrical contact wheels with individual constant torque air motors. The motors provide sufficient torque to overcome rotational resistance. The speed is controlled by the passage of the wire and not the power of the motors, and slip is reduced.
