A wire electrode for wire electro-discharge machining comprises a core, and a coating layer formed on an outer periphery of the core at least a surface layer of which contains copper. The coating layer comprises an alloy of copper and at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zn, Cs, Se, Te and Mg, with the copper content being about 55.5wt% to about 75wt%. The coating layer does not have an oxide film thereon other than a natural oxide film.

Cette invention concerne un fil-électrode pour ensemble d'usinage par étincelage comprenant une âme et une gaine extérieure dont au moins la couche superficielle renferme du cuivre. La gaine se compose d'un alliage de cuivre et d'au moins un élément du groupe Zn, Cs, Se, Te et Mg, la teneur en cuivre étant comprise entre environ 55, 5 % et 75 % en poids. La gaine ne présente aucun film d'oxyde protecteur autre qu'un film d'origine naturelle.
