In a wire saw primarily intended for sawing stone with the aid of light portable equipment, a continuous, easily flexed wire loop (18) or wire (40) on which cutting elements (25) are uniformly spaced includes elastomeric spacing elements (41) between the cutting elements (25). With the intention of increasing the flexibility of the wire loop (18) and its ability to endure bending as it runs around guide sprocket wheels of small diameter, the diameter of the wire (40) or the wire loop (18) is reduced. A narrow waist bore (30) which centres against the wire (40) enables the cutting elements (25) to be threaded in a centred way on the wire (40). The spacing elements (41) are applied thinly on the wire (40) between the cutting elements (25). The elastomeric material functions to resiliently centre the cutting elements (25) by being pressed against the centre plane of the cutting elements (25) from both sides into recesses (32) provided in the end-walls of the cutting elements (25), these recesses (32) being flared at a wide angle of about 90 degrees.

Une scie à fil servant principalement à scier la pierre, avec l'assistance d'un équipement léger portable, comporte une boucle de fil (18) ou un fil (40) très souple sur lequel des éléments de coupe (25) sont espacés régulièrement, entre lesquels éléments (25) sont disposés des éléments d'espacement (41). Pour accroître la souplesse de la boucle de fil (18) et sa capacité à endurer les flexions alors qu'elle tourne autour de galets de guidage de faible diamètre, le diamètre du fil (40) et de la boucle de fil (18) ont été réduits. Un alésage central étroit (30) centré sur le fil permet de visser les éléments de coupe (25) en les centrant sur le fil (40). Les éléments d'espacement (41) recouvrent finement le fil (40) entre les éléments de coupe (25). Le matériau élastomère assure un centrage élastique des éléments de coupe (25) en appuyant contre le plan central des éléments de coupe (25) sur ses deux côtés et sur des évidements (32) pratiqués dans les parois d'extrémité des éléments de coupe (25), lesdits évidements (32) étant évasés d'un angle important d'environ 90·.
