WIRE TAKE-UP/PAY-OFF MECHANISM ABSTRACT A machine for processing wire includes a take-up/ pay-off mechanism for a spool which has a coaxial spool shaft. The mechanism comprises an output shaft, means supporting the spool with the spool shaft coaxially aligned with the output shaft, a manually operated dog clutch normally biased toward engagement for drivingly connecting the spool shaft to the out- put shaft, a clutch lever for moving the clutch to a disengaged position in opposition to the biasing force, and a detent for releasably retaining the clutch lever in a position correspond- ing to the disengaged position of the clutch.
