A wireless digital Key Telephone System (KTS) includes at least one extension (14a). The extension (14a) contains an audio processing circuit (70) that is electrically connected to a central processing circuit (60), a speaker (72), and a microphone (74). The audio processing circuit (70) is responsible for transmitting audio signals output from the central processing circuit (60) to the speaker (72), and transmitting audio signals received by the microphone (74) to the central processing circuit (60). The extension (14a) also contains a network controller (66), which is electrically connected to the central processing circuit (60) and to a network port (68). The network controller (66) is responsible for the transmission of network signals between the central processing circuit (60) and the network port (68).
