Method and apparatus for detection and selection of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) service. A cellular network may provide an advertisement for a WLAN, such as in an overhead signaling message. The advertisement may identify the Access Point(s) by an Extended Service Set Identifier (ESSID). The remote station may then scan for the WLAN service automatically or manually.

Procédé et appareil permettant de détecter et de sélectionner un réseau local sans fil. Un réseau cellulaire peut diffuser un message d'annonce pour un réseau local sans fil, tel qu'un message de notification de surdébit. L'annonce peut identifier le ou les points d'accès grâce à un nom de réseau appelé ESSID. La station éloignée peut ensuite lancer une recherche automatique ou manuelle afin de détecter la présence d'un réseau local sans fil.
