In a wireless local area network having an access point (AP) and at least one station, wherein data is prioritized by access categories, a method for admission control begins by calculating a transmission budget for each access category (AC) and a total transmission budget for all Acs requiring admission control. A traffic stream admission request is sent from a station to the AP. A medium time value for the traffic stream is calculated at the AP, based on information extracted from the admission request. The medium time value is compared to the transmission budget for the AC corresponding to the traffic stream and the total transmission budget. The traffic stream is accepted if the medium time value is not greater than both the transmission budget for the AC corresponding to the traffic stream and the total transmission budget; otherwise, the traffic stream is rejected.

Dans un réseau local sans fil comprenant un point d'accès (AP) et au moins une station, dans lequel on donne une priorité de données par catégories d'accès, un procédé de commande d'admission commence par calculer un budget de transmission par chaque catégorie d'accès (AC) et un budget de transmission total pour toutes les AC requérant une commande d'admission. On envoie une demande d'admission de flux de trafic provenant d'une station au AP. On calcule une valeur temporelle moyenne pour le flux de trafic au niveau du AP en fonction des informations extraites de la demande d'admission. On compare cette valeur au budget de transmission de l'AC correspondant au flux de trafic et au budget de transmission total. Le flux de trafic est accepté lorsque la valeur temporelle moyenne est inférieure à la fois au budget de transmission de l'AC correspondant au flux de trafic et au budget de transmission total, autrement le flux de trafic est rejeté.
