A cake pan is formed from a flat wooden base and upstanding sides formed into a rectangular receptacle for receiving a paper liner folded from a single sheet of wax paper. The sides are formed from four panels of wood coupled together at right angle corners with the base slightly larger than the interior dimension of the frame so that the base can receive the whole of the frame. The use of wood for the sides and base surprisingly provides an improved baking process which allows more even cooking and a better consistency in the product.
