ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a method for making pressed products from wood, comprising conditioning by heat followed by compression and dimensional stabilization. In one embodiment of the present invention conditioned wood article is compressed and heated to a stabilizing temperature in an apparatus comprising conditioning part and a forming part. It is subsequently cooled while remaining under pressure within the forming part of the apparatus. In another embodiment of the invention wood conditioned in a conditioning part of an apparatus is compressed and cooled within a forming part of the apparatus and subsequently reheated in a stabilizing part of the apparatus to cure the adhesive. The present invention further provides an apparatus for combined heating and cooling of wood articles under forming pressure without expending a substantial amount of nonproductive energy.
