An extruded composite utilized as a building material includes a base polymer, unseparated processed recycled carpet waste, and a filler material, which may be a wood filler or other natural fiber. The recycled carpet waste may be used to decrease the amount of both base polymer and wood filler to achieve an equivalent product at lower cost. The extruded composite may also utilize chemical foaming agents to reduce density. Both foamed and non- foamed composites may be capstocked.

L'invention porte sur un composite extrudé utilisé comme matériau de construction qui comprend un polymère de base, des déchets de tapis recyclés traités et non séparés et une matière de remplissage, qui peut être du bois de remplissage ou une autre fibre naturelle. On peut utiliser les déchets de tapis recyclés afin de réduire la quantité de polymère de base et de bois de remplissage et obtenir un produit équivalent à moindre coût. On peut également ajouter des agents moussants chimiques au composite extrudé précité afin d'en réduire la densité. Les composites expansés et non expansés peuvent être recouverts, une fois extrudés, d'un revêtement de protection polymérique ("capstock").
