A synergistic wood preservative composition is provided comprising a quaternary ammonium compound and 3-iodo-2-propynyl butyl carbamate having the properties of providing stain resistance to wood. The quaternary ammonium compound is preferably selected from the group consisting of tri-methyl-coco-ammonium chloride and dimethyl-di-coco-ammonium chloride.
