A wood veneer is cut from a log, and the wood veneer is further cut into wood veneer strips. A first plurality of the wood veneer strips are arranged approximately parallel to one another along a first direction, and a second plurality of wood veneer strips are arranged approximately parallel to one another and transversely to the first plurality of veneer strips. In locations at which the first and second pluralities of veneer strips cross, fasteners such as staples are applied to hold together the first and second pluralities of veneer strips. The resulting lattice is sturdy, inexpensive and requires fewer trees for its production relative to other techniques for making lattice.
