Traveling motion imparted to bottles in an intermittent motion decorating machine (10) is provided by a pair of workpiece feed cams (66, 68) rotatably supported in a side-by-side relation to rotate about spaced horizontal axes lying in a common horizontal plane, the workpiece feed cams have feed cam tracks (66A, 68A) extending along the decorator between loading and unloading stations for receiving cam followers (74, 75) of each of plurality of bottle carriers. The feed cam track defines a workpiece dwell period (D) at each decorating station and workpiece advancement periods between each workpiece dwell period. A pair of carrier return cams (70, 72) is rotatably supported in a side-by-side relation to rotate about spaced horizontal axes lying in a common horizontal plane. The carrier return cams have carrier cam tracks (70A, 72A) extending along the decorator for returning bottle carriers received from the unloading station for delivery to the loading station.
