ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention resides in apparatus for con- trolling a desired operation of cutting to length of an elongated moving workpiece by a shear device driven by a motor, comprising: means for determining the speed of movement of the workpiece; means responsive to said speed for selecting an operational parameter of the shear device at the time of the workpiece cut; and control means for controlling said shear device using a predetermined speed characteristic of the shear device and in accordance with said determined operational parameter. -1-
