ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A woven slide fastener and a method of making same. The fastener comprises two fabric supporting tapes, each tape having inner and outer surfaces and having warp and weft threads woven to form a single layer portion and a double-layer edge portion having two overlying arms which merge along a line with each other into a single layer portion of the tape. Each tape includes a row of linking elements to be coupled by a slide with the linking elements being formed by a meander-shaped con- tinous synthetic warp monofilament bent into a series of U- loops, each loop having two leg portions interconnected by a bent end portion. The series of U-loops are joined by a leg port on so as to surround an internal space, and the leg portions of each bent end portion lie in a plane disposed normal to the plane of the adjacent U-loop bent end portion and define alternating U-loops disposed on a respective side of the single layer por- tion of the tape and extending parallel thereto for connection to a respective one of the two overlying arms of the weft threads thereof. The monofilament also defines linking U-loops which constitutes the linking elements and are disposed in a plane per- pendicular to the plane of the single layer portion of the tape and have its leg portions joined to a respective leg portion of an adjacent pair of alternating U-loops. The linking U-loops are expend along the edge portion of the tape and the point at which the monofilament projects through the fabric of the over lying arms coincides with the line along which the overlying arms of the tape converge.
