An apparatus for wrapping a package (3) with a foil, the apparatus having a frame (9) forming a portal (8), at least one conveyor (1, 1a, and 1b) extending through the portal (8) and having a stretch supporting the package (3), driven foil rolls (11) whose foils (12) are connected at their ends to form a curtain extending across the portal (8), and double-weld beams (16) movable together from opposite sides of the portal (8), the package (3) being conveyed through the portal (8) to entrain the curtain so that same wraps around it whereupon the double-weld beams (16) move together and close the curtain by welding the foils (12) together behind the package (3), characterized in that in order to at least partially adjust the foil tension, during movement together of the double-weld beams (16), a device is provided for displacing the package (3) back against the normal travel direction through the portal (8).
