ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A pen with a cap-less closure can be operated by a push- button or other mechanism. For writing, the lead is switched into a locked position of defined instability. When writing ceases, the lead is automatically released after a fixed time-interval. The writing appliance is therefore closed automatically after a predetermined time- interval without the action of other external influences.
