New Abstract A writing instrument has a writing mechanism contained in its body and another mechanism for, causing an indicia, such as a person's name, to appear and disappear from the body of the writing instrument. The latter mechanism includes a film located next to the body and carrying the indicia. At least a portion of the body is transparent, the portion of the film providing the indicia also being transparent, with the other portion of the film being opaque. The body has an interior of the same color as the other portion of the film. The interior of the body is viewable through the transparent portion of the film. A slide is provided and is movable within the body, the slide being of a different color than the other portion of the film. The slide is movable between the film and the interior between one position wherein the indicia appears on the instrument and a second position where the indicia does not appear to be visible on the instrument.
