A xerographic apparatus fox a label printer which receives a continuous label strip on which printing occurs. The apparatus has a photosensitive drum, a toner fixing section including rollers, a label strip conveyor located between the photosensitive drum and the toner fixing section, a detector for detecting slack in the continuous label strip positioned between the label strip conveyor and the toner fixing section, and a controller responsive to the output of the detector for controlling the speed or the clamping force of the toner fixing section rollers in order to increase the conveyance speed of the continuous label strip at the toner fixing section when the slack detector detects the presence of slack.
